What are the options for those entering kindergarten?
How will the classes be set up for kindergarten kids? Will there be a preview?
For the kindergarten kids being only available in school, how are the classes going to be structured considering it’s a play based curriculum?
Is there a chance Spring Hills will have e-learning or reduced days available for Kindergartners? Also, what if they attend 5 days a week and there is a COVID situation and now there is no backup e-learning plan, do they just miss out on learning for 2 weeks? Also, how many Kindergarten classes are there this year and how big will the class sizes be? Lastly, if the school is over 80% of grades 1-5 and they reduce to 2 days a week, does this include Kindergarten as well?
Is there a commitment form for Kindergarten?
What will the size of the kindergarten classes be? (approximately or a cap size?)
I know there is not an option for remote learning for kindergartners in the fall. However, if we move back a phase and are no longer able to meet the safety guidelines/requirements, will there be an option for remote learning or a hybrid model for kindergartners? I might be reading the plan too literally, but wanted to clarify.
My child has an underlying medical condition and cannot attend school everyday. Since there is no option for remote learning for Kindergarten, will my child be able to re-enroll half way though the year?
If we are not comfortable sending our kindergarten student in person, can learning materials be provided so we can teach him at home? We are both full time working parents and coming up with a home school curriculum will be difficult. While we prefer a virtual teaching environment, even having materials that we can use to make sure his learning is on track would be extremely helpful. Thank you for your consideration.
Will you be offering half day attendance for kindergarten?

Our kindergarten program will be an all day program and will be held each day. All school districts in Illinois are required to allow for a half day program. In districts like ours where we provide a full-day program, parents who prefer a half-day option would send their child for two and a half hours each morning. Students attending half-day receive a portion of the kindergarten curriculum but not all (the emphasis will be reading and math).
Classrooms will be set up with social distancing expectations in mind.
Our kindergarten team will make adjustments to the curriculum to keep social distancing in place.
At this time there are not plans to offer remote learning as a full-time plan for kindergarten or reduce the number of days kindergarten students are in school. All in-person classrooms will have remote learning plans to accommodate any needs for quarantine. Our kindergarten classes will have 15-20 students, depending on enrollment. Our kindergarten classrooms are quite large and can accommodate 20 students with social distancing.
No, all students enrolled in kindergarten will attend in-person.
Class sizes will be 15-20 students based on enrollment. Our current enrollment would reflect 15-18 kids but we typically have additional enrollments in late July/early August.
If we were to move back into an earlier phase, ether for long periods of time or short, intermittent time periods, kindergarten will shift to remote learning with their kindergarten teacher. Knowing that this is a possibility, our teachers will be working with our young learners to build the skills and habits that will help them be successful in a remote learning environment.
Yes, you may enroll your child for kindergarten at any time as kindergarten is not required in the state of Illinois.
At this time we are not offering a virtual option for kindergarten. If you choose to not enroll your child in D12 for the upcoming year, you would be responsible for securing learning materials.
Illinois School Code requires that all districts allow for half day attendance. The half-day program will not include all academics or specials but parents may always choose that, even in a "typical" learning year. It is not a separate class; the parents opting for half-day simply pick their child up at 11:00 a.m. (half-day is a 2.5 hour day)
