How many hours would the children be in school with all day option 1? Is the A/ B option even really on the table? We don't want full 7 hour days 5 days a week but would be ok with an A/ B schedule like Lake Park is doing. How do we fill out the form for that?
If you choose the first option which is in-person learning when will we know if students go everyday or two days a week to school? Is that something that we choose?
I would prefer A/B group scenario with only 2 days per week in school. In case the decision is made for every day school can I change to e-learning?
If the vote is for in-person school, but I don't feel comfortable sending my child back yet, will there be any teacher support for the parents for homeschooling, such as remote live access during instruction times via something like Zoom or GoToMeeting? Or will that be totally up to the parent?
If we sign up for in school learning and it ends up every day not an A/B schedule can we move to remote learning? Five days for seven hours with masks we feel is not feasible. Even the high school is doing A/B schedules.
Say my child has a slight fever or cough but overall, seems to be acting normal & would be focused enough for school, will they be able to attend remote learning that day instead to be precautious or will it need to be considered an absence?
The schedule for at home learning was released, but what is the schedule for in school learners? If at at home kids are doing 5 hours of e- learning why are in school learners doing a full 7 hour day?
Will you let parents know if the A/B schedule is an option for in person learning?
If we choose the in class option for our child and then after some experience feel it was the wrong choice is there any flexibility to then move to remote learning?
Do I have to commit to option "2" if I would prefer my child to have a hybrid schedule? Can this be accommodated?
If we choose to keep our child home this trimester can they attend school next trimester?
If we do not enroll in D12 for the first half of the year, can we enroll for the second half?
Who at district 12 came up with the options we were given? How can any of the board members who have children actually think it is a good idea for children to sit with masks on for full days? Was the reasoning behind this to accommodate the families who need somewhere for their children to be all day? I ask this because I can't believe the educators at the district believe that the attention span of the children will be there for a full day with the restrictions that will be in place. Also how do you expect teachers to keep the children engaged for that amount of time under these circumstances?

In-person learning will follow the posted school hours on each school's website. They have not changed from the 2019-20 school year.
We will be able to notify families no later than August 1.
We can't guarantee that a family may switch its choice once the commitment window closes due to the allocation of staff.
There is no vote for options. Families in grades 1-8 choose from in-person instruction or remote learning. If a family chooses to withdraw their student from D12 and homeschool, they are fully responsible for their chosen curriculum and learning resources. Information about homeschooling may be found at the Illinois State Board of Education website.
Given the results of our initial parent survey, we know that there is the potential to bring our students back for five days a week. If you do not feel that five days in-person meets your family's needs, you are encouraged to choose remote learning. High schools and other schools with large student populations are only offering A/B schedules because they know they can't support having thousands of students in the building at one time with social distancing requirements.
Remote learning classes are not something that a student moves in and out of. It will be a designated teacher with an identified group of students. If a student is home ill for a day, it will be handled just as it has in the past with the classroom teacher.
Times alloted for content areas for in-person instruction result in a seven-hour day. Remote learning may not have the same time allotments and may require more independent work time for students.
The options for parents are in-person or remote learning. Once we know how many students will return for in-person learning we will let families know if it is five days per week or an A/B schedule.
We can't guarantee that families will be able to make a change once staff is allocated for either remote or in-person teaching.
There is no guarantee that in-person instruction will be a hybrid schedule. If you prefer your child not attend five days per week, you should strongly consider the remote learning option.
Yes, if we are still in Phase 4 in November, parents will re-commit for the second half of the year.
Yes, however, you will need to watch the district website. Ongoing communication is sent to families enrolled in the district.
As shared in the board presentation, the plans we developed were done by a district team comprised of building and district admin, our district nurse, social workers, teacher union leadership, and teachers from both of our schools spanning kindergarten through grade 8. As a group we believe that the plans we put forward are the best options for our district. Our Board of Education is in support of our plan to safely return students to school.
